Half Of Internet Users Now On Instagram

Since its launch, Instagram has seen its audience expand rapidly year on year. The photo-sharing app, now owned by Facebook after a $1Billion acquisition, has become one of the biggest success stories in the social networking space in recent years.

The platform shows no signs of slowing down in 2016, with the percentage of internet users outside of China having an account on Instagram jumping over 10 percentage points compared to late last year. That brings Instagram’s total reach to almost 50% of the globe’s internet users.

According to The Next Web, every second there are 2,100 new Instagram posts, which equates to around 180 million posts per day. And while that makes for a noisy platform, the users aren’t just scrolling through the endless streams of content.

A recent study by Forrester Research found that Instagram users were 58 times more likely to like, comment, or share a brand’s post than Facebook users, and 120 times more likely to do so than Twitter users. Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, 47% of the users rank Instagram in their top 10 channels used for product discovery.

Instagram is becoming increasingly popular, particularly with younger audiences, due to its beautifully simplistic and personal nature. 42% of millennial smartphone users now spend an average of 439 minutes per month on the platform.
